SICK SAD WORLD : Shredcore solo project by Dez, originally from Hull, Qc, Canada since 2001, now based in Montreal, Qc.
SICK SAD WORLD is basically DIY recordings of what I compose since 2001.
Not to forget, alot of people have collaborated with SSW. From guest vocalists/back vocalists to session members to full line-ups and live members! A few songs were made with drum tracks by AGATHOCLES' drummer Roel! About 20 songs were recorded with session members in SSW's hometown from 2002 to 2004. It gives a more spontaneous side to the band since most of the songs where almost improvised. A bit less than 10 shows has been played, mostly in Ottawa. The first show was in September 2003 and we played HC/Grindcore/Crust with members of INSURRECTION and BADTRIPPE/ROT IN PIECES. SICK SAD WORLD came back in January 2004 playing D-Beat/Crust/HC with a more regular and totally different line up. It was Jo on drums (NO REFUND, ex-ROT IN PIECES, NUCLEAR WOLF), Ross (ex-keyboardist for THE FLIES THE FLIES THE FLIES) on bass and me (the Dez-truktor! haha) on guitar/vocals. In April, Ross had to leave so we got Matt (ex-singer for xTHIN ICEx) to play bass. Then, in June, after the first show we did with him, we felt it was becomming more like another band (since we were pretty much focussing on D-Beat/Crust I guess), so we decided to continue as TRIOXIN 245 (still playing the same songs!), leaving SICK SAD WORLD as the one-man-band it usually is.
SICK SAD WORLD was a reaction due to the amount of bands I have participated in. (ROT IN PIECES (grind/death..., 1999-2003, rip), THE VANISHING ACT (grind/metal, 2002-04), TRIBUNAL (death metal, 2001-02), FTW (hein-hun...since 1997), GRAVEVIĆLATION (black metal, since 2002), NO REFUND (shitcore/noize, since 2000), LES OISEAUX VAGINAL (first birdcore band ever...haha...since 2001!), SCATOPHILE (hardcore/grind, rip 2000-01), SUPPLICE (black/death/grind, 1999-2001, rip), ...to name a few). It tend to be for me a more free and concrete way of creation and expression of my opinions. There is no specific style, no 'official' band members, just music as it may be!
MUSICALLY :
Whats 'Shredcore' ? Shredcore is not a style of music, just my own answer to labelisation, a synomym to what already exists anyways... I'm influenced by alot of Hardcore/Punk/Metal... (from Grind to D-Beat...) or whatever you wanna call it... Why 'Shredcore' ? Not only because of my cheap DIY label's name, but mostly because I have no pretention to be part of something and I dont want to try to fit the limits of labelisation. I like playing way too many slightly different styles of music, so it gets confusing... Anyways, most so called Hardcore/Punk/Metal bands these days arent representative of my vision of music.
LYRICALLY :
Why SICK SAD WORLD ? The #1 drug taken by Canadians is antidepressant... Quebec has the highest suicide rates... 'Sick Sad World' is also the name of a reality show in a cartoon on MTV called Daria. I hate TV, I hate MTV and I hate reality shows! Ironic, is'nt it?... I dont wanna preach, I just wanna scream about what pisses me off!
