A wrestler with awesome top control and submission defense is the only fighter I see beating Machida. They'd have to set up their takedowns well with strikes also.

Tito honestly had a style that could have beat Machida and Machida made him look bad for 90% of the fight. He even took Tito down with ease a few times.

Henderson also has a good style to do so but he's always setting up that big right hand anymore and nearly disregarding his wrestling. He started to show signs of the old Hendo when he fought Franklin. I'd like to see which Dan shows up to fight Bisping.

I personally think a healthy Shogun is a nightmare for anyone in the division.

Apparently Dana White posted on Twitter that after the Sherk/Edgar fight, Sherk was so pissed he ran out of the building in his fight shorts and no shirt on to blow off some steam eventually coming back to submit his post-fight urine sample.

Evans and Rampage to coach next season of TUF and will fight afterwards.

Since Rampage is out to fight Machida for awhile, Shogun steps up as #1 contender and will face Machida at UFC 104.

I personally think Shogun and Anderson Silva match up the best with Machida.

The other option is a great wrestler than can put Machida down and keep him there.

I think who ever beats him beats him by KO that comes in the midst of a scramble or by a very boring, near LNP type decision. Rampage has a chance because he has KO power in both hands, a tough chin, and vicious slams. He'd need to cut the cage off and really engage Machida. Get him against the fence and dump him on his head. From there just your standard GNP without giving up too much room for Machida to capitalize and snag a submission. But even when you try to submit Jackson the ground he plants you through the mat. (ala Arona). Problem is i don't see Rampage getting the job done. I think he'd get picked apart standing and wouldn't be able to close the distance.

Shogun and Silva has precise unothordoxed striking, are aggresive, have great chins. Plus both have excellent ground games. (Shogun's being more aggressive where Silva is more defensive)

Lesnar was 1-1.

I guess retiring Liddell counted for something. But from what Dana was saying after Shogun beat Liddell, it really seemed like the whole plan was to get Shogun in a title fight as fast as possible. I think had he beaten Forrest he would have fought for the title in his next fight. They definitely couldn't give him the title after that, so they gave him Coleman and he performed like shit there too...So they gave him the best test they could and threw him in there with Liddell (which was a dream fight) and he looked like vintage Shogun.

I think the gears are turning to have Shogun/Rampge 2 for the belt. Face it, the UFC doesn't want Machida in the top spot. Fans are starting to accept him but really he is, on the surface, a boring fighter. Someone like Shogun that is near Kamikaze at times, is what the UFC wants holding their belts. The larger portion of the fanbase, Generation TUF, can connect with someone like that.

Anderson Silva earned his title shot against Franklin the first time after only beating Chris Leben.

that's easily a possibility since he's from Toms River.

If he was born and raised in Hawaii it would be more of a shocker.

im fine with shogun getting a title shot. remember, UFC is not a sport, MMA is, and shogun's record speaks for itself.

i wish ricardo arona was still relevant. his style is made for a cage. i really do believe he'd give machida a good fight. boring but it would atleast be a challange.
