would you like to go shooting sometime?

also, bryan likes to teach me "quick disarming moves" or some crap like that. he's all about teaching girls practical self defense moves.

Terrible idea-why would you get closer to the problem

my actual plan if i were attached would probably just consist of me running my ass off and yelling as loudly as possible.

Best idea.

Knives help. I started carrying one after I was mugged at knife point f I had a knife at the time I'm pretty sure dude wouldve backed off. Seeing as the past 2x I've pulled it dudes have backed off.

no, you would have gotten stabbed. Just because you have a knife in your hand doesn't mean someone isn't desperate enough to risk their life to get what you have in your pockets. This way of thinking is naive. A knife is good for when someone is already on top of you. If you are pulled into a dark ally way and someone is literally on top of you with their dick between your legs, then yes, use that knife as much as you can. If you being held up at knife point, throw a fucking 20 dollar bill and run.

Your dumb.

My MMA school offers a Tactical Urban Defense course if anyone is interested:

There is a brief description. Email the school if interested. I know the Level 2 course starts in a week or two but the next Level 1, should be in a few weeks.

Also, one of my old BJJ instructors does a "Fight Like A Girl Seminar" every few weeks up at BJJ United. She's an active BJJ Blackbelt and certified defense instructor under Steve Kardian at Defend University. I think her seminars are once a month at the least but she will do home lessons to smaller groups if that's your deal.

you can email Sharon at sbonewicz@gmail.com

Both are worth looking into if you are from the area. In both cases, tell them I sent you.

By any chance to they teach Krav Maga? I found an instructor up here but I want one on one training and this guy is way too expensive.

The TUD Class at my school uses Krav Maga tactics but isn't Krav Maga...if that makes sense.

What Sharon teaches and I'm sure she can explain it better is more of a "real scenario" defense for women. I'm 90% sure the Level 1 class is Rape Defense and then the other two levels build off that. Knowing that she's a BJJ Blackbelt and has actively competed in Judo, she more than likely incorporates alot more of that. But again, I would rather let Sharon talk to you about it. She gets nothing but good reviews and having her as a BJJ instructor, I can tell you she's excellent at breaking down the movements.

I'd be interested in seeing how many of the people in this study were LEGALLY carrying. Obviously if you're carrying illegally you're in a completely different scenario than somebody like myself or anyone else I know. Chances are they're mixed up in drugs or other crime if carrying illegally and if they include those people in the study it shouldn't be used in this argument. Because, hopefully, he people that read this wouldn't do that and would carry legally.

I carry a knife. and have a long sharp metal stake placed between the driver's seat and the center console in my car. Was almost car jacked last spring, not trying to have that happen again.

I've been robbed a few times. but I've found that being really friendly can help deter people from trying to rob/beat you up. I think it's harder for someone to assault a person who says hello, and smiles, than someone who keeps their head down, or runs away. one night I was walking from my car to the house ( about 5 or 6 blocks ) at about 2:30 am. some dude walked through the park across the street towards me and stopped to tie his shoe for like 10 fucking minutes, and was looking over his shoulder at me ever few seconds all sketchy like. I had time to walk 2 blocks, while this happened... so I kept walking, and as soon as I passed him, he popped up and started following me. so I struck up conversation with him, asking about the ravens game that day, and if he was from the neighborhood blah blah blah. When I turned around and made eye contact with him the look on his face changed, and he looked really awkward like he was caught. I walked for 3 blocks smiling and being super friendly. and when I turned towards my house, and said "have a great night, be safe" he looked so confused. just kind of stood there for a minute, and walked the other way. plans ruined.

Bmore crackheads are lazy there lookin for an easy target, my knife and my Akita mix are enough of a deterrent so far.

My house was broken into over the summer at 3am I was dead asleep downstairs when they broke in the backdoor upstairs, I had my dog and my roomies pitbull with me in bed, sent my dog upstairs, kept the scared pit with me, locked my door grabbed my knife and called 911 while screaming I have a gun. I didn't leave the room till the operator said the cops are there it's ok to open your door. My dog was gone, my back door was laying on the ground and the frame no longer existed. Blood on the door and kitchen floor and my next door mexicans with bats in my backyard. Apparently the mexicans heard the commotion of the door being wrecked, the dudes screaming and my dog barking so they came out with bats as the dudes were running away. I walked east Baltimore till 8am looking for my dog, when a cop found him bleeding in a back alley, he had been stabbed. That dog saved my life. I'll take my dog over any knife or gun any day. Both times I pulled my knife was past 2am in patterson park while walking my dog. I take my chances walking my dog in a dark park at night. But it's a chance I take. This is also why I enjoy living in the county now, I don't have to walk my dog late at night. He has a backyard now.

This is when I used to live over by you off decker. What a sketchy area, such a mix of good and bad by the park. I'm glad you stayed safe.
