Ron Paul under fire for racist newsletters Friday 23 December 2011 Telegraph uk

Ron Paul, the fringe Republican hopeful who is threatening an upset victory in Iowa, was today engulfed in a political storm following the emergence of newsletters where he described Martin Luther King as a paedophile and said most black men were criminals.

The claims were made in a series of newsletters that the Texan Congressman began producing in the late 1980s, where he offered paid subscribers advice on how to survive "the coming race war" and how to protect themselves from tax collectors armed with machine guns.

Mr Paul said that he did not write the letters himself, did not read them and "disavowed" their message but is under growing pressure to explain how he could be unaware of dozens of inflammatory messages which were produced over more than a decade.

In one undated letter that carries Mr Paul's signature, he writes: "I've been told not to talk, but these stooges don't scare me. Threats or no threats, I've laid bare the coming race war in our big cities. The federal-homosexual cover-up on Aids (my training as a physician helps me see through this one.) The Bohemian Grove - perverted, pagan playground of the powerful."

Another from December 1990 describes how King "was not only a world-class adulterer, he also seduced underage girls and boys", while one written in the aftermath of the 1992 Los Angeles riots said order was only restored in the city "when it came time for blacks to pick up their welfare cheques".

A letter from 1992 reads: "Given the inefficiencies of what [Washington] DC laughingly calls the 'criminal justice system,' I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal."

I thought this was old news/not news at all. I've been hearing about this for as long as I've known about him. I don't normally hold people to things they said almost 25 years ago, but having never heard him splain this, I'd at least like him to say something about it. either way, I decided he wasn't worth voting for eons ago

Same guy who doesnt turn away money from white supremacist groups, and thinks the Civil Rights Act was unconstitutional.

However, he does say the word "liberty" a lot and wants to legalize the devil's cabbage so he's probably not racist.

Much like Denis Kucinich, Ron Paul looks like a child trapped in an old man's body.

I will lay it down for anyone who cares to listen. yes, Ron Paul IS a fringe candidate. he says a lot of cool things, but a lot of weird and dumb things too. he is too fundamental and radical to win. he's also very old and WILL 100% die before he's elected President. even if the media respected him and covered him, he'd be a laughing stock, and not without some good reason. the gold standard is as retarded as the Fed is. Ron Paul will never be your President. good night

Agreed. I will point out how the media mistreats him when it doesn't outright ignore him (gee.. I wonder who came in second in this poll.. since they skipped right over first place to third to cover the other candidates), but I will also be one of the first to point out he is not worth voting for in the first place and in addition to a few good ideas and a few great ones.. he has a whole raft of terrible, nightmarish ones that will drag us back a couple hundred years.

I defend Paul in terms of media exposure and such only because I want to see other candidates in the future get a fair shake from the media.. candidates who are not libertarians or wingnuts.
