I am not religious for a few reasons:
Being brought up in the christian church of modern day i saw and heard alot of things that as a child made me feel good inside. The idea of an omnipresent god was a great way to bring a kid up my dad thought. Well as i grew up i opened my eyes and saw that almost everyone in the church had a substance problem be it alcohol or drugs. Or even sum had hit rock bottom in the finances aspect of their life. So seeing these washed up people every sunday raising their hands and hoping for better changes to come their way was real in the way that seeing a person getting hit by a car is. Ex. You see the oncoming car (the car being a crisis in their life) the person walking across the road all fine and happy (them before their crisis ) and then blam hit by the car. They are on the ground raising their hand to the sky looking for some sort of divine intervention to help them get up and heal their mangled body. ( be it the crisis has struck them down to a level that they depend on some divine entity to "help" them.)
Yea ive seen some crazy shit i cant really explain. "Healings" and "speaking in tounges" but i dont believe that it is divine. I dont know what to think of what i saw all i know is nothing divine ever came to me or my family.
The main reason i was brought up in the church is due to my dad alcohol problem. "god" helped him through it apparently. well whatever works hes been good ever since, so i guess a belief in a higher being works for him. It just doesnt work for me.
In short church seem to me to be a corporate giant that spreads a message of peace but somehow causes some wars along the line. I dont agree with the peace and then war. well whatever i guess. some people need a god to believe in i guess.
