Anyone know of any decent rock-oriented open mics? Those for slightly heavier music, as opposed to acoustic-only types?

Looking mainly for places in NJ/PA/DE/NY

Just the tip?

I don't know of any that cater to much more than acoustic, it gets kind of hard to do more than that when everyone only get two or three songs because of changeovers. I work sound at the open mic on monday nights at the grape room in manyunk. We have had the occasional full band come and there is definitely a mix of styles of music every week.

I was actually just reading some of the booking stuff at Grape Room. Considered going to a Monday night thing. And I like the Monday night Victory draft special :)

Anyway, Mondays are *all* acoustic, correct? Just bring yo'self + instrument?

Its pretty much all acoustic, with the exception of the occasional full band that comes in last minute, that always sucks, if they come in the beginning of the night I can at least get everything ready. Come check it out one night and see for yourself.

this is not true, I've watched plenty of people play three songs while no one watches and also no one recognizes one when they finish. You can always tell if you're doing good if nobody is talking during your songs. also everyone sounds better on a great sound system with a great sound guy.
