I don't see the big deal -- it's made to put on burgers and shitty sandwiches and is, without a doubt, the only cheese you can use for a grilled cheese and NOT be an asshole. It's not for eating with wine and appreciating with your fake-ass refined palate. Think of it in reverse, would you waste an awesome greyure on a fucking grilled cheese sandwich? Doubtful.
I constantly see people bitching about American cheese on the internet and I don't get it at all. It's good for certain things, and necessary for a few things, but it definitely isn't something worth getting pissed off about.
You are such a terrible poster/person.

I don't understand the faux American populism that manifests as food politics/culture. "Hurr if it's not processed and served on white bread, it's a symbol of (class) pretension that mocks real Americans, for whom simple shit is good enough."It's like a perfect storm of Freudian Marxism.
I'll always defend the fact that America has cultural identities and a deep cultural heritage, but we really don't have a food culture. What little we do have has been deeply influenced by industrial food production, which results in this nonsense connection between food, class, 'pragmatism vs. pretense', etc.
