If any of you know me, then you know that this album has taken the place of almost my entire death metal collection lately (a collection which is arguably extensive). But none of that is unwarranted. If you're not a pussy, then as soon as you put this disc in you will understand. This 5 piece from Belgium have returned with a few new members and completely destroy any past effort they have offered.
Quite simply, they have mastered the art of death metal / grindcore / whatever the fuck other stupid genre pigeonholes you can come up with. They just know how to put good songs together. No song is just blast beats or just chugs or overly reliant on any one part of a song to carry the whole track. The album remains relentless throughout it's duration with incredibly accurate and hammering drumwork, disgustingly powerful growls, and perfectly crafted heavy as fuck guitars.
These guys remain true to the death metal stereotype in only one way, and that is the gore-based lyrical content, but even that has a more original and intelligent take on things when compared to the countless death metal clone bands out there today.
If you are as cool as me, then you managed to get the original Listenable Records version, which includes amazing artwork (I'm not sure about the other version), but more importantly features an (arguably) perfect cover of the song "Carnal Forge" by the legendary grind gods CARCASS, a feat that many have tried, while few have succeeded.
I must also point out that this band, unlike so many others today, have all but completely washed away any signs of what has been quickly and annoyingly becoming the trademark for European metal bands and the American ones that try to copy them; "Swedish" melodies. Almost this whole album (aside from solos) works all on chord-based riffs and progressions, eliminating a lot of trem picking and single note stuff that has been getting really overplayed lately.
While this album is not a guitar virtuoso's dream in terms of technicality, the musicianship and craftsmanship involved with this band shines through brightest in their amazing song-writing skills, on top of the BEST DEATH METAL BREAKDOWNS EVER. Buy this record or you're a douche bag.
Recommended tracks: "Meticulous Invagination" and "The Saw & The Carnage Done"
For fans of: good music, breakdowns, and Blackowitz-era Malevolent Creation (sorta, and only with the vocals).
