Clearly somebody out there understands this on some level. I do not. At all. This right here is one of the most painful records I've sat through. Ever.
I guess I can cut these guys some slack as they are clearly a serious experimental band from Japan. They all appear old, and don't seem like deranged hippies or cooler than you hipsters. And I'm sure they feed off that whole "everyone thinks Japan is weird" concept. But in the end, this is terrible, terrible ambient keyboard noise that I could barely tolerate for 1 1/2 tracks, let alone an entire CD. I listened to this in my car at night, which was an abysmal idea, because I felt like some crazed clown was going to appear in my back seat and murder me, or that I'd start hearing voices telling me to drive off the road or something.
I found nothing redeeming at all about any track on here. It was all a blur of improvised cartoonish noise without any sense of subtlety, flow, precision or talent. I would totally contrast this with "Ascension" by Coltrane. Whereas Johnny C was breaking seriously new and unheard of ground with a multitude of talented players in his reins, this to me is nothing but a bunch of dudes plunking away on various obscure instruments making needless noise for way, way, way too long.
The title and cover are a not so clever in 2011 ripoff of "Are You Experienced" by the great Jimi Hendrix. Do not be fooled.
The funny thing is, I'm willing to bet these guys have a following, and I might even get someone telling me I don't "get" this. Well yes, I fully admit, I don't get this, and I don't want to. Throw your judgment on me; I'm putting on Yes and cleansing my palate, asap.
