Arctic Sleep are from Chicago though they have a sound straight out of Seattle.
The album starts out with droning chants and chimes for almost four minutes but once the first riff of the album kicks in I got a good idea of what I was in for. As I said earlier Arctic Sleep have a droning yet melodic sound that would fit right in in the Washington music scene. This album varies from slow dreary numbers that remind me alot of Jesu to solemn melodies that suit rainy days. Songs like Hemlock Shadows remind of Leonard Cohen in some ways. My favorite track is Mossweaver its probably the sludgiest track on the album with haunting vocals and melodies that get stuck in your head for days.
Clocking in at 60 minutes with 7 songs this release is great for rainy days or just to get stoned to.This album has all the right touches of "Alternative" music. If more stuff like this got played on the radio I would be really happy. If you enjoy Jesu, Harvey Milk, or The Melvins check this out.
