Death in Custody - Infected With Rage

Death In Custody's 2007 release "Infected With Rage" is a short, but somewhat sweet burst of hardcore shotgunned into your face, but its not without its flaws.

"Rage" is an incredibly short listen. Each song is around a minute to a minute and a half long, which is fine if you have a good load of tracks on the album. Death In Custody only put 11 songs on, making the CD shorter than a half hour. They couldn't even fill a regular setlist at a show with one CD, which is disappointing depending on what you end up paying for this.

For what few minutes we have of listening time, you're treated to some incredibly tight guitars that move fast and give you no chances to stop headbanging or moshing. The drums are just as fast and keep pace with the music and create the breakneck atmosphere. The vocals are good, but unfortunately, the lyrics are silly.

The lyrics cover relateable "everyman" themes- family, betrayal, religion, rage (for no apparent reason), and in one small song, a changing hardcore music scene. The only problem with these themes is the songs are short and give no real chance to further express the feelings within. It's mostly "fuck you for this, rarrrrrrrr, fuck you."

A minor complaint- the vocal production and music production both sound different- the music is clean but the vocals are au natural. I would have preferred they were the same, but it doesn't kill the music entirely.

This style of music isn't my normal cup of tea, so perhaps people more into hardcore may prefer it. If you just like really fast music and shouting silly lyrics, give it a shot.
