I found out about this band through the Harvcore Records tent at This Is Hardcore back in August. This is why I am reviewing the Expatriate 7 inch by Distress Signal.

After listening to it a few times, I was really surprised because I was expecting more of a hardcore sound to it. The songs on the 7 inch are more heavy Mastodon like sound such as Expatriate and Residual Haunting. The first song "Drone", had an Integrity-esque sound to it and it was my favorite song on the release. The problem I had with Expatriate is the last half of the song (1:30) was just instrumental, repeating the same riff 3 times. The change in pace musically was pretty nice going from heavy riffs in Expatriate to fast and thrashy Perverting The Motherland and Pulse Decay.

If you want to know more about this band, check out their myspace page and you can download their 2009 demo too. The 7 inch is available on Harvcore Records website for $5. I would recommend this band and 7 inch to anyone who likes bands such as Integrity, Mastodon, and Disembodied.
