Drawing Mountains - Ventures

Drawing Mountains from Sterling Heights, MI have me scratching my head.

Playing a laid back and almost bluesy version of Indie rock, I can't tell if they're trying to be epic or trying to seem aloof and edgy. Maybe it's a mixture of the two? I can't put my finger on it. All I do know is that every song off of their newest full-length CD "Ventures" seems to drag on for far too long with nothing really interesting happening.

Sure for a trio, these guys have some talent. But for the majority of CD it feels more like I'm listening to a jam session or a band practicing for their next high school gig, not to a full-length album. The vocals are scarce and sporadically placed through-out each song. The bass sometimes becomes a little over-bearing and over-powering, not mixing all that well into the mix.

I don't know much about this band, or if this is their first release, but it does show hints of promise. Sadly, you have to sift through the jumbled mess of every track to find it.

I like this band. We've done a few shows together, and even had one in their basement.

And If I'm not mistaken, none of them are over the age of 18.
