What can I say about this album that every other critic that gets its hands on this masterpiece won't? It's not even 2011 yet and I'm really not sure if the other albums coming out will even be able to compete with Earth's "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1".

If you are familiar with Earth you know they aren't your traditional drone ensemble by relying on only guitars, but are also heavily influenced by jazz and folk music. You would also know that "The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull" was their last release. "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1" picks up right where The Bees.. left off. But with a darker less folky feel to it. This album reminds me of what I'll be listening to while waiting in purgatory. A heavenly masterpiece that moves you and I may smoke too much weed but after listening to this I"m on some "I don't even know how to feel right now" shit. In a really really good way. With the simple yet intelligent use of a note this new release from Earth gets you thinking. With the unique blend of instruments especially the use of the cello on this new record to me might be the closest thing to a classical composition we have in our era. The layers they have beautifully constructed on Angels... is quite like a symphony that makes you patiently listen and take in every long sustaining note.

So in a couple weeks when all you vinyl lovers race to pick up what will probably be an excellent and elaborate layout of "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1", just do yourselves the favor and just leave the bong on your computer desk. Because your going to get lost in this record before you even have the chance to take a rip.
