Glass Casket - A Desperate Man's Diaries

ADMD is the second release from these guys and I have to say, I'd consider it a bit of a regression.

Maybe the album isn't that great or maybe I can't stop thinking of these guys as BTBAM's "B team" but something about this album does almost nothing for me. The talent is there, but the songwriting is completely uninspired and overly dramatic, while the vocals are subpar compared to vocalists in comparable bands.

The lyrics are horrible on this album. I don't know what this guy has going on but when he breaks into a seventh-grade spoken-word poem in the middle of the last track, I just about put a bullet through my head. Then there's another song that aside from the typical growling and screaming, there's a singing portion that sounds like a 12-pack kareoke version of Chris Cornell's latest project. I actually got a confused look on my face when that one came around.

All in all this is a completely uninteresting album. Spare a few cool guitar riffs that sound like riffs that didn't make the cut on BTBAM's Alaska, I had to fight myself to make it through this album, and when I did, I was pissed I didn't turn it off half-way. What began as a potentially creative metal band turned into my biggest disappointment for 2007 so far.

Not that this thread really has anything to do with BTBAM, but I fail to see how anyone who liked silent circus could have trouble finding something to like about Alaska. It's the exact same thing with better production and more song and album cohesion.

funny
I liked this a lot better than the first one. . .at least until he started singing (c'mon, I thought this band was supposed to be BTBAM WITHOUT the Opeth worship)

I can't remember a second of the first record, compared to this one (how much as that saying? not too much)

as for BTBAM, I like them when they lay off the Opeth/Radiohead shit.
You're not Dream Theater, god dammit.

the guitar and drumming style is where its at. two of the members are in BTBAM and it shows.

So, I felt bad for giving it a shitty review, so I put it in to listen to it cover to cover one more time.

It was even worse the second time. I made it half way through and had to shut it off. I'll admit, a few licks in the first two tracks are okay, but the vocals are rotten, the songwriting is bland and the production is...I dunno. shitty. I feel bad because Dustie and Blake are awesome....in BTBAM. but man does this album suck.

BTBAM is just as good is they were when they practiced in the garage across my street.
