Immolation - Shadows In The Light

I know I'm going to get hate mail about this review, but here goes...

Immolation's "Shadows in the Light" off Listenable Records (ironically named I'm sure) is probably one of the worst mixed metal CD's I've ever heard. The drums sound like they're tracked via one over head mic and one in the kick-drum... that's it. All the rolls are weak and barely audible while the cymbals sound like trash can lids being banged together by a 5yr old. The guitars are also badly recorded, though a solo here or there did come off as impressive though muddled and alsmot lost between the noise of the other instruments.

Growing up playing in a few metal bands, I can say we've played with plenty of bands like this before. Obvious metalheads who hate god and are talented, that's for sure. But the transitions in 80% of their songs reminds me of a bar band that just started writing their own original music. Especially (beating a dead horse here) the drummer.

Being that this is their 8th release, maybe the well is running dry. But I for one was expecting a little more that what I was given.

Hate mail because that review is very off base. Immolation have carved their own sound over 20 plus years as a band and they don't need to stray from it. Bob Vigna has his own style on guitar and you can definitely tell it's an Immolation song when you hear it. That takes a lot in this day and age. I also think it's far better than the previous release Harnessing Ruin.

THANK you.
It wasn't a shot against the band but more over the production.

Immolation are hot/cold for me on disc. I like them live though.
