Philadelphia, a city flush with incredible musicians and songwriters, has produced some of the most pleasant surprises of the past few years for me. That would include The Menzingers, Good Graces, Luther... and for me, at the top of that heap is the rock band Restorations.

After having heard this 7"EP, A/B, I found that at its conclusion of slightly more than 10 minute run time I needed to flip the record over and start all over again... and then again… and again. For being a band that I had never had the opportunity to hear previously, this is no small feat to dig their talons into my heart and pull me in for more as much as they have. It takes a true piece of impassioned and infectious art to accomplish this with me... and that is exactly what Restorations have created. All beneath the umbrella of indie rock, you will also find elements of punk, Americana, traditional 90’s emo and even at times, alt. country. This formula is one that has been embraced by a great many bands in recent years but there are few who present it in such a raw and genuinely inspired package.

With such a short run-time, I don’t need to harp on and on about how great this record is. The bottom line is that this is a very small sampling of what Restorations have to offer and will surely whet your appetite for more. Being such a huge fan of all of the genres that are masterfully incorporated into their sound, I can’t wait to hear what they do next… and apparently they were recently scooped up by Sideonedummy Records to release their next full length. I’m counting the days…
