This Drama - Tarantula Mata

The Canary Islands aren't known for much outside of tourist traps, sandy beaches and steamy senoritas. But, it seems they have found some dirty rock n' roll in the form of This Drama.

Produced by The Bronx's guitarist Toby, This Drama serve up some gritty (although mostly Spanglish speaking) rock and roll with a punk/almost hardcore-ish flourish that had me hooked more than a few times. (Even if I had no idea what they were saying half of the time.) "Tarantula Mata" (Tarantula Kills) is definitely an album full of energy and angst with some serious bite.

Although some consider their sound Punk n' Roll, to me it sounds like straight up hard rock. Riff after riff, This Drama tries to get you to move. And although this seven song EP does that from time to time, i don't see any real lasting power. I found myself bored after the second listen. Maybe it's because of the language barrier. But, I guess that's my own fault for taking German in High School instead of Spanish.

"POR QUE???!!!???!"

Bottom line: This Drama is worth a listen but not a spot in the rock and roll hall of fame.
